Vladimir: IMPOSSIBLE! I’m sure it must’ve cost a great deal. Nancy: Are you going to attend Professor Helen Risk’s lecture tomorrow? Vladimir: I wouldn’t miss it for the world. She always gives an INFORMAL talk and allows students to interrupt her whenever they want to. Nancy: Isn’t it IMPROPER to interrupt someone when he’s giving a speech? Vladimir: Yes, it is. However, if truth be told, students are so delighted with the way she delivers her ideas that they get IMPATIENT to ask her about the specific points. Exercise: 2.4.1 Practice IN & IM Use positive statements to express the same ideas. For example: Her new outfit wasn't expensive . HER NEW OUTFIT WAS INEXPENSIVE . Professor Jones didn't give a formal talk . PROFESSOR JONES GAVE AN INFORMAL TALK . 1. She thought that it wasn't proper to interrupt the teacher. 2. It wasn't possible for him to take a vacation. 3. He said, "Since it isn't a formal dance you can wear anything." 4. It isn't polite to make noise when you eat soup or drink tea. 5. He didn't answer the question correctly. 6. They thought that it wasn't possible to fly to the moon. 7. His new suit didn't cost very much. 8. He thought that it wouldn't be possible for him to learn English.
