1. Phrasal Actions 1.1. GET UP, DIE DOWN, etc. DIE DOWN means decrease , get less . GO OUT means leave , quit . GO ON means continue . Situation: John and his father are camping in the mountains. It’s late evening. They have been sitting around the campfire and talking. John: Should I GET UP and put some wood on the campfire? It seems to be DYING DOWN. Mr. Smith: Yes. We don’t want the fire to GO OUT yet. (John STANDS UP, gets some wood, and puts it on the fire. Then he SITS DOWN again.) John: How long do you think the fire will GO ON burning? Mr. Smith: It’ll probably burn a couple of hours. Be sure to HANG your coat UP near your bad tonight. Exercise: 1.1.1.
