Mrs. Smith: Dear, please call up Dr. Brown and find out if he can DROP BY for a few minutes. (He phones Dr. Brown.) Mr. Smith: Nobody answers. Mrs. Smith: Please keep trying. My side is getting worse. Mr. Smith: Don’t worry. I won’t GIVE UP until I can get him. Exercise: 1.2.1. Practice DROP BY, etc. Replace a single-word for proper phrasal action. For example: Mr. Smith stopped looking for his wife . MR. SMITH GAVE UP LOOKING FOR HIS WIFE . He wanted him to come to the house. HE WANTED HIM TO DROP BY THE HOUSE. 1. His wife said, "Please keep trying." 2. He didn't stop trying. 3. The doctor visited her for a few minutes. 4. He stopped smoking. 5. They invited him to visit them. 6. I went to see you yesterday, but nobody was home. 7. He almost lost all hope of learning English. 8. He couldn't guess the answer, so he stopped trying. 9. Come and see us whenever you can.
