Lesson XXVIII: Vocabulary in Context
Prof. Risk: Bullying-Elitism, widely recognized under the term of THE NEW WORLD ORDER, assumes self-proclaimed elites of the developed countries to shrink into a single, exclusive body to manage sustainability on the global stage. The proposal puts forward the construction of a single hierarchical society for all peoples on the earth. It designs a society governed by a tiny, invisible elite through all means of technological achievements: from mass media to pharmacy, from microelectronics to genetic engineering. In other words, it creates a totalitarian society. Igor: How does THE NEWWORLD ORDER tackle the problem of energy (over)consumption? Prof. Risk: By keeping the existing level per-capita intact. However, it denies access to energy sources to the majority of the world population. So, the price of saving civilization is to be paid by those from developing countries. If any remonstrance expressed, bullying comes to play: a social turmoil by design, sanctioning, isolation, invasion, extermination, and so on and so forth. In spite of promising efficiency, Bullying-Elitism would fail on the long run for it relies on worn out postulates of tyranny. Namely, THE NEWWORLD ORDER endorses freedom to a negligible fraction of the society denying creativity and going against evolution. Igor: What about Comprehensive-Voluntarism? Prof. Risk: Comprehensive-Voluntarism, better known as the move WE THE PEOPLE, includes a broad consensus of the peoples of the world about designing and implementing the principles of sustainability. Truly, it will be a formidable challenge to squeeze out a unison voice upon the issue of a sustainable development. Although seems far-fetched, it is possible to agree upon the subject if the key-parties express any zeal about it. The process requires great negotiating skills, patience and a good will since all parties involved are supposed to share the burden of change. Igor: How is the WE THE PEOPLE expected to deal with the energy waste? Prof. Risk: It advocates total energy reduction by cutting down the consumption per- capita but applied universally without exception. Consequently, the population problem gets less urgent and postpones the use of radical steps. However, non-violent population control takes time and assumes wealth distribution for the percentage of the old and unproductive will constantly increase. For those and many other reasons, self-proclaimed elites won’t eagerly welcome the postulates of WE THE PEOPLE hard to put into practice all the same. Igor: Prof. Risk, what do you consider as the greatest advantage of the move WE THE PEOPLE in relation to the principles of THE NEW WORLD ORDER? Prof. Risk: Freedom, Igor! Well, a plausible degree of freedom. The advantage of WE THE PEOPLE lies in the maintenance of free societies as far as it goes. But freedom is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the mother of creativity. In the absence of creativity human kind would lose last chance to survive. Inevitable, painful changes can be performed only in comparatively free societies able to generate competitive ideas: brand new ideas carried out by a brand-new generation of the open minded - that is what humanity needs to sustain.
