4. UNIVERSITY, etc. REGISTER means become a student . FACULTY means the teachers . COLLEGE means an institution of higher learning , beyond high school . UNIVERSITY means several separate departments , school or colleges . PRIVATE means not operated by the state . PUBLIC means operated by the state . TUITION means the money paid by students for their instruction . Situation: John and Jim are having a soda together. John: When do you REGISTER to the state UNIVERSITY? Jim: On September fourth. John: I understand that the teachers in the engineering department are excellent. Jim: Yes, their FACULTY includes many famous professors. John: What other reasons made you choose the state university? Jim: Just one. TUITION is much cheaper at a PUBLIC COLLEGE than at a PRIVATE college. Exercise: 4.1.
