Exercise: A.3.2. Summary of Reported Speech Report quoted sentences. For example: Ivana is announcing , “ I ’ m ready to handle it .” IVANA IS ANNOUNCING THAT SHE IS READY TO HANDLE IT . Mr. McPherson suggests , “ Let ’ s give up hydraulic fracturing for saving fresh water resources.” MR. MCPHERSON SUGGESTS TO GIVE UP HYDRAULIC FRACTURING FOR SAVING FRESH WATER RESOURCES. Donald asked me , “ Are you ready to take over Zhu’s job ?” DONALD ASKED ME IF I WAS READY TO TAKE OVER ZHU’S JOB . He restated , “ I talked to Tina yesterday.” HE RESTATED THAT HE HAD TALKED TO TINA THE DAY BEFORE. He ’ s asking me , “Who would you like to talk to ?” HE ’ S ASKING ME WHO I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO . They promised me , “ We are going to wait for you right here.” THEY PROMISED THAT THEY WERE GOING TO WAIT FOR YOU RIGHT THERE. 1. Maria is saying, “I’m going to talk to her.” 2. Maria promised two weeks ago, “I’m going to talk to try it all the same.” 3. Maria promised two weeks ago, “I will talk to her tomorrow.” 4. Maria told us, “I had talked to her the day before I came here.” 5. Maria told us, “I haven’t talked to her today.” 6. Sue is asking Maria, “Are you going to wait for me here?” 7. Sue is asking Maria, “Where are you going to wait for me?” 8. Sue ordered Maria, “Stay and wait for me right here.” 9. Sue confessed, “I was jealous of Marcia for she was about to get married to Xi.” 10. Sue admits, “Maria is so charming that I can’t get angry at her.” 11. Lucia asked Marko, “When are you going to forgive me about it?” 12. Marko answered Lucia, “I will bury all our disputes before we get married.”
