1. David West Goes to the Doctor David usually has to get up at seven in order to get to his eight o’clock class on time. One morning last week, he got up at the usual time, but he had a headache and he was sneezing. His roommate said, “You don’t look well. Do you feel sick?“ “Yes. I feel terrible. I think I have a cold.” He coughed several times. “Well,“ his roommate said, “I think you ought to see Dr. Bowman after breakfast. He’s a very prominent physician. His office is at 134 Hill Street.“ David went to Dr. Bowman’s office after his eight o’clock class. When he got there, he saw a beautiful nurse at the desk. “Would you like to see the doctor?“ she asked. “Yes, please.“ “I’m sorry, he’s busy right now. May I have your name?“ “David West. May I have your name, too?“ The nurse looked at him angrily. “The doctor will see you in a few minutes,“ she said. “Please be seated.“ David sat down and looked at a magazine for about fifteen minutes. Then, a patient came out of the doctor’s office and the nurse told David to go in. “What seems to be your trouble?“ the doctor asked. “My nose is running, my throat is sore and my head aches. I’d like to go to the hospital.“ David answered. The doctor examined his new patient. “Fortunately, you won’t have to go to the hospital.“ he said. “You have a bad cold, but it’s not serious. I’ll give you some nose drops, some medicine for your throat and some aspirin. Follow the directions on the bottle and drink lots of water. You’ll feel much better tomorrow.“ “Thank you, Dr. Bowman.
