LESSON XXII

1. The Seasons Situation: Ken and Pablo are having a cup of coffee. They are talking about the weather. Pablo: Are there two SEASONS or four seasons in this part of the United States? Ken: There are four: SPRING, SUMMER, AUTUMN and WINTER. Pablo: We only have two seasons in my country: a rainy one and a dry one. Ken: Do you prefer that kind of climate? Pablo: I don’t know. Tell me about the climate here. Ken: Spring and autumn are the best seasons. In the springtime, there is a little rain, the grass turns green, and the flowers begin to bloom. In the fall, the leaves turn yellow, orange and red and fall from the trees. Pablo: I suppose winter and summer must be very unpleasant seasons. Ken: In some ways they are. But, in other ways, they aren’t. It gets very cold in the wintertime and there’s lots of snow, but many people like winter sports. In the summertime, it’s very hot and often very humid, but many people like to go on picnics, have beach parties and go swimming. Pablo: I think I’m going to like this climate. Exercise: 1.1.
