4. PASS & SPEND Situation: Ken is in his classmate’s room after dinner. Ken: Did you PASS your math final yesterday? Dave: Yes, I got 85 on it. Ken: I PASSED the bulletin board near the math department this morning, but I didn’t see any grades on it. Dave: Our instructor seldom puts them up on the bulletin board. Ken: Please hand me the phone. I want to call up my girlfriend. Dave: Here you are. Ken: Hi, Sue. How are you? How much time did you SPEND on your paper today? Sue: I only SPENT two hours. Marian asked me to go shopping with her. Ken: You’ll never finish your paper that way. Did you SPEND all of your money? Sue: No, I have a quarter left. Exercise: 4.1. Summary Dialogue Charles: Why did Old Frank go to that country? Richard: He went for two reasons: for his health and in order to get rich. Charles: Did he succeed? Richard: Yes and no. He made a lot of money by working hard, but he lost it all by spending it foolishly. Charles: Well, that’s life.
